Nashville Predators defenseman Mark Borowiecki was stretchered off the ice and sent to the hospital on Saturday night after a nasty collision along the boards with Philadelphia Flyers forward Morgan Frost.

The incident occurred early in the second period when both Borowiecki and Frost skated into the corner of the Predators’ zone while chasing the puck. Borowiecki reached the puck first, and Frost made contact with him along the boards right in the numbers, and Borowiecki collapsed on the ice, needing a stretcher to get off. Frost did not receive a penalty for the infraction, although he did get one a couple of minutes later for smothering the puck. The Predators would end up losing this game to Flyers 3-1.

The Predators later provided an update that Borowiecki was sent to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for further testing and observation. While there are no updates at the time on what injuries he suffered, the Preds confirmed that he was conscious and had movement in all of his extremities.

This was Borowiecki’s fourth game of the season for the Preds, and he currently has no points on the year. However, he’s not really known for his offense, as he has just 15 goals, 41 assists, and 56 points in 458 career games between the Predators and the Ottawa Senators. He also has yet to score a goal in his three seasons as a Predator, and hasn’t scored since February 1st, 2020.

While losing depth is never a good thing, especially in the way that Borowiecki was injured, the Predators currently have the options to weather the storm while he recovers. Borowiecki wasn’t a full time option for the Preds, as he was rotating in and out of the lineup with Jeremy Lauzon. He will likely get into most of the games in Borowiecki’s absence as the Preds look to end their five game losing streak after a 2-0 start to the season in Prague.
