New York Islanders right wing Cal Clutterbuck Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

New York Islanders President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Lou Lamoriello announced Saturday that veteran forward Cal Clutterbuck would be out indefinitely with an upper-body injury.

Clutterbuck suffered an upper-body injury in Thursday’s 3-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. Clutterbuck missed 13 games this season already due to injuries. The 35-year-old has registered eight points (four goals, four assists) in 34 games this season, he has also racked up 130 hits. Throughout his 967-game career, the Welland, Ontario native has tallied 134 goals and 136 assists for 270 points to go along with 3,600-plus hits. Clutterbuck set a new NHL hits record back in November surpassing former Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown who totalled off 3,632 throughout his career.

The Islanders announced that they have called up Aatu Raty from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Bridgeport Islanders. Raty has played seven games at the NHL level this season picking up two goals and averaging 8:25 of ice time. The 20-year-old has spent most of the season in the AHL with Bridgeport collecting 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in 27 games.

An important note, Raty is still under the nine-game threshold for junior players. This means that if he suppressed the nine-game mark, it will burn the first year off his entry-level contract (ELC). But, if the Islanders decide to play him for just the two games; he will still have three years remaining on his contract. The Finnish product was drafted 52nd overall by the Islanders in the 2021 NHL Draft.
