NHL bets: Backing a pair of studs in the SOG market tonight

Last night was a frustrating one in the NHL shots market, as we lost a pair of Marchand shots to burn one of our looks. Such is the nature of this beast, and we continue on in a fresh day with a pair of plays that look just terrific on the ice, both at plus-money.

Tage Thompson over 3.5 SOG (+100 DraftKings)

I was extremely surprised to see this as the price for Tage Thompson's shots today, and I jumped on it immediately.

Without Dylan Larkin in the lineup this year, Detroit has been unable to slow down opponents, allowing 37.2 shots per game in nine games without their top center. That coincides beautifully with the location averages I look at each morning, as the Red Wings are allowing nearly 36 shots per game on the road over the past month and a half, while Buffalo is averaging about 34 shots of their own as an offense on home ice during that span.

The cherry on top is that Detroit allows the second-most shots to centers over the last 10 games, and with that, enter Tage Thompson.

Thompson is the top-line center on the Sabres and leads Buffalo in 5v5 shots over their last five home games. He's over this line in six of his last nine at home, and he's finished with five, five, nine, two and four SOG the last five times Detroit has come to town.

I also like him to score, FWIW.

Connor Bedard over 3.5 SOG (+110 DK)

Connor Bedard has come alive, racking up a simply ridiculous 29 shots attempts in his last two games. That volume has led to SOG totals of five and seven, and I'll gladly jump on this ride against the lowly Ducks.

Anaheim is allowing 36.6 shots per game on the road over the last 45 days, and they're handing out a ton of power play chances lately when skating as the visitor.

That should behoove Bedard all the more, as he's Chicago's PP shot leader. He is over this number in two straight at home, and at this price, I have to back him. Similarly with Thompson, I'm also high on a Bedard  goal tonight.
