The NHL Department of Player Safety fined both Edmonton Oilers winger Evander Kane and Nashville Predators center Colton Sissons for incidents occurring on Thursday night.

Sissons received a $2,500 fine for spearing Ottawa Senators center Josh Norris in Thursday night’s game between the Predators and Senators. The incident occurred late in the game, as Sissons and Norris got into a shoving match after a faceoff that resulted in Sissons spearing Norris in between his legs.

Sissons is in the third year of a seven-year contract with a $2,857,143 cap hit and has six goals and 27 points in 67 games this season. He’s played an important top-nine role for a Predators team that sits in the first wild-card spot with a 41-25-4 record.

Kane received a $5,000 fine for kneeing Los Angeles Kings defenseman Sean Durzi in their game against the Kings on Thursday. The incident occurred early in the second period, as Kane took a run at Durzi as he was transitioning the puck out of the zone and made knee-on-knee contract with him.

Kane originally started the season on the San Jose Sharks but due to a significant amount of controversy saw his contract terminated. He then signed a one-year deal with the Oilers, which which he has 16 goals and 29 points in just 33 games. While it wasn’t a morally correct decision, there’s no denying he has helped the Oilers in their playoff push, as they now sit in second in the Pacific Division with a 42-25-5 record.
