NHL over/under bets: Betting approach for Blues vs. Flyers

Yesterday was not our best day betting team totals, but a new day brings fresh opportunity. There are some sweet spots in the NHL on this Tuesday night.

For the first time, I'd like to write about betting on a game's over/under instead of focusing on just one team.

The game we're referring to is St. Louis vs. Philadelphia, a game I expect to see goals on both sides. Both teams have seen scoring against them while scoring at a decent chunk themselves, and both teams see a lot of shots from their opponents every game.

Over six total goals: Blues vs. Flyers (-110 BetMGM)

The best odds for this bet at six goals is at BetMGM. DraftKings is -120. FanDuel is offering over 6.5 goals at +100, but I like the option of a push if we only get to six.

I think we exceed this number and reach seven, so by all means opt for the even-money bet on FD.

There are solid numbers that support scoring on both ends, so let's dig in to them.

St. Louis

The Blues are averaging 3.7 goals per game on the road in their past 10 games, fifth-most in the NHL.

The Flyers are allowing 3.8 goals against them in their last five at home, the seventh-highest mark. That's a terrific intersection of scoring trends, and if you prefer taking just one team total, I'd prefer the St. Louis side.

Further supporting goals from the Blues is the power play. St. Louis has the 11th-best power-play scoring rate in the last 20 games, while Philadelphia owns the worst penalty kill in that same span.

If the Blues can get three or more chances tonight to skate 5-on-4, they should be able to put the puck in the net.

The Philly goaltender situation is also reason for optimism. Carter Hart missed yesterday's game due to an eye infection. If he can't go, it's likely Martin Jones again, who is allowing 3.86 goals per game in his last seven starts.

Philadelphia

There's enough positivity around the Philadelphia side tonight to make this a game total instead of only focusing on the Blues.

In the Flyers' last five home games, they're averaging 3.2 goals per game. In their past five on the road, St. Louis is allowing the same total, 3.2.

That shows me that two to three goals from Philly is a safe assumption, which will surely go a long way in hitting this over.

Recent Trends for Both Teams

The over is 5-0 in the Flyers' last five games and 3-1-1 in the Blues' last five.

This feels like a great game to target for points props and goal-scorers, and I'll be opting for the over tonight at -110 on BetMGM.

My favorites for points: Vladimir Tarasenko and Travis Konecny.
