NHL postpones Hurricanes games through Jan. 23 in response to COVID-19

The Dallas Stars have not played an NHL game yet due to COVID-19 issues. Now, the Carolina Hurricanes are being affected by the deadly virus.

The NHL has paused the Hurricanes' schedule through Jan. 23 with five Carolina players in COVID-19 protocol, the league announced Wednesday.

The Hurricanes were scheduled to play the Florida Panthers on Thursday and Saturday. Carolina's game against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday also was postponed because of COVID-19 concerns.

Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell said that three players tested positive for the coronavirus. However, one of those ended up being a false positive. Warren Foegele, Jordan Staal, Jaccob Slavin, Jordan Martinook and Teuvo Teravainen are in COVID-19 protocol.

The Panthers' schedule was affected by COVID-19 earlier this season due to the Dallas Stars' outbreak. They were scheduled to open the season against Dallas but ended up playing against the Chicago Blackhawks instead.
