There is a ton of buzz surrounding the New York Rangers. With the dismissal of Gerard Gallant , the search for a head coach is on. It has been reported that former Washington Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette is in the mix. No decision has been made as of late, but another name has been added to the mix. Head coach John Hynes could be in line to be the next coach of this original six franchise.

John Hynes Next Coach Of The Rangers

This did not take long to surface. A change behind one bench leads to another. Head coach John Hynes could find work quickly. Nashville went on to hire Andrew Brunette as their next head coach. Hynes did have one year remaining on his contract, but a replacement was definitely needed. With a vacancy open in New York, he could make his return to the Eastern Conference.

Does The Move Make Sense

John Hynes is a coach that comes with many years of experience. In addition, he has close ties with current general manager Chris Drury. The two were former college teammates and go way back in the day. With a team full of offensive weapons, having Hynes may not be the best choice. Hynes is known for his defence-first approach which is something to make note of. Nashville allowed the 9th fewest goals at 5v5 but scored the fifth fewest.

Hynes comes in with nine years total of experience coaching at the NHL Level. He first began his tenure with the New Jersey Devils. In five years behind the bench, he had a record of 150-159-45 with one playoff appearance. His time with Nashville went better (134-95-18), with a 3-11 record in the playoffs. It is not the best, but he does come with experience.

This decision is crucial as this team is ready to contend now.
