Welcome to another edition of NHL Rumours! There is plenty to look forward to, as the second half of the season has been in full swing. The trade deadline is growing closer and closer and traction is being made on certain players. Other teams you wouldn’t expect have entered the mix. Today we focus on the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens.

NHL Rumours

Tampa Bay Lightning

Rumour: Jeff Marek on his own show discuss what the Lightning could do regarding the defence

Every team loses key players but the Lightning losing Mikhail Sergachev is a big blow. He can play is multiple situations and eats big minutes. With the Lightning in the thick of things, adding to bolster that area is not out of the question. Marek wonders if the Lightning go after both Nick Seeler and Sean Walker.

The Philadelphia Flyers have been a pleasant surprise but the team is essentially still building for the future. Walker is a pending free agent and Seeler is also seen as a hot commodity at the deadline. But could they be sent to a team as a package deal? The price would likely be hefty but it is well worth it.

The two defenceman have spent over 500 minutes together. Also, they’ve been very impactful and are worth adding. They do a great job of controlling the play, have outscored the opponent when on the ice 29–22 at five on five, and have dominated the high danger areas of the ice.

This is definitely worth looking into if you are the Lightning. You can never count them out at the deadline to do something. They also could be in play for Noah Hanifin.

Montreal Canadiens

Rumour: Pierre Lebrun talks about the future surrounding Trevor Zegras

The next set of NHL Rumours keeps us in the Atlantic Division. One player that has been around the rumour block is Trevor Zegras. According to Lebrun, 4-5 teams have been linked to Zegras with one of them being the Montreal Canadiens. That would be a sneaky good addition, further boosting the young core they have in place.

The departure of Sean Monahan could open up a slot for the centre position. Zegras has been injured a bit this season but is coming off back to back 60+ point seasons. Zegras joining a group of Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki would help shape there rebuild. However, the Ducks may not be inclined to move him.

They have yet to move him and with teams interested, offers have to be coming in. There is a chance they hang onto him and do not want to move on from him. He is young and talented and not worth giving up on. It is something to monitor, as Zegras is a higher profile talent.
