NHL says Sabres' disallowed game-tying goal should have counted

The Buffalo Sabres appeared to pull off an impressive comeback against the New York Rangers on Friday night, scoring twice in the last six minutes to erase a 2-0 deficit in the third period. However, the second of those two goals was disallowed by officials in a decision that the NHL is now calling a mistake.

Buffalo's Victor Olofsson scored with just 56 seconds left to tie the score, but the goal was waved off after a video replay determined that the Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin was offsides.

“The original call on the ice, ‘good goal,’ should have stood because video replay could not definitively determine that the stick of Buffalo Player Victor Olofsson touched the puck before Rasmus Dahlin tagged up," NHL executive Colin Campbell said in a statement Saturday. "In instances when video replay cannot definitively determine a play, League policy is to stay with the original call on the ice."

The call allowed the Rangers to hold on for a 2-1 victory and improve to 18-5-3 on the year. The loss was the Sabres' sixth in a row and the team fell to 8-15-3.
