The Minnesota Wild traded former Pittsburgh Penguins top defenseman prospect Calen Addison to the San Jose Sharks Wednesday in exchange for a fifth-round pick and Adam Faska.

Addison, 23, was the Penguins second-round pick (53rd overall) in 2018. He was traded to Minnesota as part of the Penguins acquisition of Jason Zucker in 2020. Addison played only three games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2018-2019, after his season with the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the WHL concluded. COVID closed the AHL season in 2020, and Addison did not have a chance to join the Penguins organization for more games.

Addison has played 92 NHL games, including 62 last season for Minnesota, scoring five goals and registering 33 assists. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound d-man was an RFA last summer and signed a one-year, $825,000 contract. He’s known for being a slick puck mover and offensive defenseman.

SanJoseHockeyNow.com reporter Sheng Peng reports Sharks coach David Quinn said Addison would arrive in time and be in the lineup when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday at SAP Arena.

Addison will join several former teammates in San Jose. You can read more about the NHL trade and the Sharks’ locker room reaction at SanJoseHockeyNow.com.
