The Edmonton Oilers announced via their social media channels that the team has recalled Devin Shore from the Bakersfield Condors. This latest recall comes less than a week after he was waived for the purpose of assignment to the AHL.

It was only a quick trip to Bakersfield for Devin Shore as the guy continues to yo-yo back and forth between the NHL and AHL as the Oilers navigate their latest round of cap issues. With the team pressed right up against the cap with only dollars to spare at any given time, watching the gymnastics they have to pull off just to ice a full roster has been an adventure, to say the least. Now with a reported bug first hitting Vincent Desharnais and keeping him out versus the Red Wings and then Klim Kostin last night against New York, I wonder what else could be coming for a team that can’t afford to lose games or bodies right now.

Seeing as Devin Shore was sent to the Condors less than a week ago, you have to wonder if this latest recall is an emergency recall after playing with only 17 skaters Friday versus the New York Rangers. After Klim Kostin missed the game due to illness, the Oilers were forced to play with a short bench due to a lack of cap space and one wonders if bringing Shore back means Klim Shady is still unable to go. If Kostin can’t play Sunday versus the Colorado Avalanche, Shore would likely enter the lineup in a fourth-line role with some PK duties added in as needed.

In 29 games played this season, Shore has produced three assists and two PIMS to go along with a +2 rating while averaging 8:42 in time on ice. In five games played with the Condors, Shore has played at a point-per-game pace with two goals and three assists. Shore is the second year of a two-year contract that carries an $850,000 AAV.

On Friday morning, the Edmonton Oilers loaned both Dylan Holloway and Vincent Desharnais to the Bakersfield Condors to create the required space needed to activate Kailer Yamamoto from the long-term injured reserve.
