The Edmonton Oilers signed forward Adam Erne to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced on Friday.

The deal is worth $775,000 at the NHL level.

The 28-year-old went to Oilers’ training camp on a professional tryout agreement. He scored a goal during the Sept. 30 preseason game vs the Vancouver Canucks.

Erne spent the last four seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, recording 27 goals and 35 assists for 62 points in 241 games.

Drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Erne played 114 games for the Lightning over three seasons, scoring 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points.

Through seven NHL seasons, he has logged an average ice time per game of 12:21 while accumulating a total of 40 goals and 49 assists.

Born in New Haven, Conn., Erne grew up in North Branford before moving to Los Angeles at the age of 13 to play for a California-based select hockey team. He was offered a scholarship to play college hockey at Boston University but decided to play with the QMJHL’s Quebec Remparts.

In his final season with the Remparts in 2014-15, he was awarded the Guy Lafleur Trophy as the QMJHL’s most valuable player in the playoffs. He led his team to the President’s Cup Championship final, which they lost in seven games to the Rimouski Oceanic. In 22 playoff games, Erne had 21 goals, nine assists for 30 points.

Both the Remparts and Oceanic went to the Memorial Cup, as Quebec hosted the tournament in 2015. Both teams were eventually eliminated with the OHL’s Oshawa Generals coming out on top.
