The Edmonton Oilers have signed free-agent forward Connor Brown to a one-year, $775,000 average annual value; the contract will have a potential $3.25 million in bonuses.

Brown is recovering from an ACL injury, a major reason why he played only four games this past season with the Washington Capitals. However, the recovery, as expected, has been good. Prior to joining the Capitals and having his entire season upended, he was a member of the Ottawa Senators. In 2021-22 he notched 10 goals and 29 assists for 39 points in 64 games; Brown was coming off a 21-goal and 35-point performance in the COVID-shortened 56-game season.

The Etobicoke, Ontario, product was initially selected No. 156 by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2012 NHL Draft. In 2013-14 while playing with Connor McDavid and the Erie Otters, he notched an astonishing 45 goals and 83 assists for 128 points in 68 OHL games, adding an additional 18 pints in 14 OHL Playoff games. As a result of his dominant performance, Brown won the OHL’s Most Outstanding Player Trophy and the Canadian Hockey League’s Top Scorer Award.

Brown made his NHL debut in the 2015-16 season, registering one goal and six points in seven games before being returned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. He played his first full NHL season during the 2016-17 campaign, scoring 20 goals and 36 points in 82 games with the Maple Leafs.

Throughout his NHL career thus far, the 29-year-old has appeared in 448 games, registering 90 goals and 126 assists for 216 points.
