2014: Blackhawks Rout Penguins at Soldier Field
On March 1, 2014, the Blackhawks defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-1 in an NHL Stadium Series game at Soldier Field. To date, it's the Blackhawks' only win in an outdoor game.
Patrick Sharp opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period. Jonathan Toews and Kris Versteeg added to Chicago's lead in the middle frame.
James Neal got one back for the Penguins early in the third period, but Bryan Bickell's goal and Toews' second tally down the stretch put the finishing touches on the Blackhawks' commanding victory.
Corey Crawford made 31 saves to backstop Chicago's effort.
Notable Blackhawks Birthdays
Max Bentley, a Hall of Fame NHL forward, was born on March 1, 1920. The Saskatchewan native spent parts of six seasons with the Blackhawks in the 1940s. Bentley scored 256 points (109 goals, 147 assists) in 235 regular seasons with Chicago. He added seven points (four goals, three assists) in 11 playoff games with the Blackhawks.
