Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reported Monday morning that the Florida Panthers have placed Swedish forward Patric Hornqvist on long-term injured reserve (LTIR) with an upper-body injury. Hornqvist was injured in Saturday’s 5-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken.  He will miss 24 days or a minimum of 10 games.

Hornqvist is in his third full season with the Panthers since joining the club in the 2020-21 season. The Panthers dealt defenseman Mike Matheson and forward Colton Sceviour to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Hornqvist. Last season, he registered 28 points (11G, 17A) in 65 games. This year, he has just three points in 22 games while averaging a career-low in ice time at 9:16.

The 35-year-old recently played his 900th career NHL game, an astonishing feat for a player who was originally selected in the seventh round of the 2005 NHL Draft by the Nashville Predators. Through 901 games with the Predators, Penguins and Panthers, Hornqvist has recorded 264 goals, 279 assists and 543 points. He won back-to-back Stanley Cups during his time with the Penguins in 2015-16 and 2016-17. He scored the Stanley Cup-clinching goal in Game 6 of the Penguins Stanley Cup Championship run in 2017.

The Panthers have recalled forward Chris Tierney from the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers. Tierney, 28, was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the second round of the 2012 NHL Draft. He has made stops in San Jose and Ottawa throughout his career. In 561 NHL games, he has registered 226 points. This season with the Checkers he has recorded 16 points in 19 games.
