The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today that Florida Panthers forward Ryan Lomberg had been fined $2,083.33, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement for elbowing Ottawa Senators defenseman Jakob Cychrun.

The incident happened early in the third period of last night’s contest and Lomberg was not penalized.

This is not Lomberg’s first deal with DOPS. He was suspended one game in the 2022 Stanely Cup Playoffs following an altercation with members of the Tampa Bay Lightning and had to forfeit $10,000. In 2018 while playing for the Calgary Flames, Lomberg was suspended one game for fighting and forfeited $3,817.

Lomberg signed with Calgary as an undrafted free agent following a tenure in the NCAA with the University of Maine before leaving and going to play fo the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL. Lomberg made his NHL debut in 2017-18 with the Flames and appeared in just 12 games, scoring no goals before moving on to the Panthers organization in 2020. Since joining Florida, Lomberg has tallied 48 points and 297 penalty minutes in 227 games.

Following Florida’s win over the Senators, they now move into first place in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference with a 37-15-4 record to go through 56 games. The Panthers are set to face off against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday and the Washington Capitals on Saturday.
