San Jose Sharks veteran Patrick Marleau discussed with the media on Monday how he’s feeling, what he’s going through emotionally and how he’ll handle being part of one of the biggest games of his career. On Monday night, he’ll move past Gordie Howe for most NHL games played ever.

Marleau got emotional when discussing the respect he’s received from players and coaches from around the league heading into tonight’s game. When thinking about what his late agent Don Baizley did for his career, he had a hard time holding back the tears.

“It’s super special to have that respect and have the guys say such kind words.” He talked about how they all know what the grind is like and it means a lot coming from them. Marleau talked about his agent Don Baizley and all that he did for Marleau throughout his career. Saying Baizley was “extremely amazing”, he added “I wish I could say more, but he was definitely a huge part of my career.”

Saying that he wasn’t sure how he’d feel and sometimes he wonders how he’ll get through it, he’s trying to embrace it and take it all in. He said he’s all over the place and while there’s a game to be played tonight, he’s trying to balance everything, be ready to play and enjoy the evening.

He says he doesn’t know anything about what’s supposed to happen as far as formalities of celebrating his achievements go. He’s seen some t-shirts and sweaters and he’s thankful for all the hard work everyone has put in.

The Gordie Howe Hat Trick?

When asked if he was going to try and get the Gordie Howe hat trick, he said, “I could deal with the goal and the assist and if it has to come to a fight, maybe I can do a wrestling match with somebody if they’re willing.” He said it might be a great way to end the night and have a memorable evening.
