Pekka Rinne may not be in net anymore for the Nashville Predators, but he is hoping to help future goalies for the franchise. Today the Predators announced that Rinne has accepted a position as European Development Coach and Scout for the Predators. Last season, he served as Special Alumni Advisor for the team.
Rinne said his passion for the game is what made him accept this new position.
"I still love hockey and want to stay involved," Rinne said.
The logistics of the role are also tailor made for Rinne's life post hockey.
At the same time I think it will be a good mix," Rinne said. "I'll still be living for the most part in Finland and traveling. I wanted to be involved but also find the right mix of how to actually execute things."
The role will involve scouting, but Rinne will focus on development as he learns a bit of a new skill set from the Predators' current scouting staff. Rinne will work with Juuse Saros and Kevin Lankinen in Nashville - one of the best goalie tandems in the league, according to Rinne - and Yaroslav Askarov in Milwaukee.
