As Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reported, the Pittsburgh Penguins are acquiring defenseman Dmitry Kulikov from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Brock McGinn and a third-round pick.

Kulikov, 32, has 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) and 30 penalty minutes in 61 games. According to our friends at CapFriendly, Kulikov is in the final year of a two-year, $4.5 million extension he signed with the Minnesota Wild in 2021. The contract has a cap hit of $2.25 million. He was acquired by the Ducks in the summer for future considerations. The Russian defenseman has appeared in 866 games with the Minnesota Wild, Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils, Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres, Florida Panthers and the Ducks, recording 45 goals and 168 assists for 213 points. Kulikov was ranked No. 11 on Frank Seravalli’s most recent Trade Targets board. 

On the Ducks’ side, they have acquired Brock McGinn. McGinn was waived a couple of days ago leading up to the trade. The  29-year-old is currently in year two of a four-year, $11 million extension he signed with the Penguins in 2021 according to CapFriendly. He has a cap hit of $2.75 million; the contract runs through 2024-25 where he will be an unrestricted free agent. This season, McGinn has registered 10 goals and 16 points in 60 games this season. The Fergus, Ontario product was drafted 47th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2012 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut during the 2015-16 season and during the 2017-18 campaign he notched 16 goals and 30 points in 80 games. He has appeared in 469 games with the Carolina Hurricanes and Penguins recording 73 goals and 71 assists for 144 points.
