Penguins All-Star netminder Tristan Jarry has 'longest workout,' remains out

As has widely been expected, the Pittsburgh Penguins will continue to lean on third-choice goaltender Louis Domingue when they attempt to close the New York Rangers out in Game 5 of their opening-round playoff series held at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.

Per Mike DeFabo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh All-Star goalie Tristan Jarry will remain a spectator through at least Wednesday due to the reported broken right foot that's kept him out since April 14. Jarry faced shots in a controlled environment from goaltending coach Andy Chiodo on Monday and Tuesday, and head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed the 27-year-old joined teammates for Wednesday's optional morning skate for the first time since he suffered the injury last month.

"Tristan had his longest workout," Sullivan explained. "I think he made a big jump today just as far as his progression in his return to play."

Jarry's status will officially stay at "day-to-day," but it's assumed he wouldn't take the ice for Game 6 in Pittsburgh on Friday if that contest is necessary.

The Penguins lost temporary starter Casey DeSmith to injury in the second overtime period of Game 1 and then to season-ending core muscle surgery last Friday. While Domingue allowed a total of nine goals across Games 2 and 3, he stopped 22 of 24 shots in Monday's 7-2 home victory that propelled the Penguins to a 3-1 series lead.

On Tuesday, Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant admitted the number of shots New York recorded against Domingue in the latest defeat was "not even close" to sufficient.
