PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled goaltender Magnus Hellberg from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. This recall might be odd because the Penguins just practiced, and Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic were present and participating on the ice.

Hellberg was also recalled on an emergency basis ahead of the Penguins' contest against the Los Angeles Kings but was listed as a scratch. According to head coach Mike Sullivan, Hellberg made his way to Pittsburgh ahead of the game because one of Jarry or Nedeljkovic was not feeling well.

“One of our goalies yesterday wasn’t feeling well,” Sullivan said. “They ended up both being fine so it was a non-issue.”

Since they Jarry and Nedeljkovic ended up feeling good, they suited up against the Kings. Hellberg was not sent back across the state, however, as he skated prior to the start of the most recent practice.

It’s plausible that one of the netminders is still under the weather and Hellberg is sticking around as a safety net incase someone isn’t able to play against the New York Islanders. This would be Hellberg’s second recall this season as he played in three games between late October and early November. Only one of those appearences was a start in which he earned a win.
