Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jan Rutta underwent core muscle surgery this week in St. Louis.

The team announced that his recovery timeline is 8 to 10 weeks.

It caps an injury-plagued first year in Pittsburgh for the 32-year-old Rutta, who had two different stints on long-term injured reserve and missed 26 games.

Rutta finished with nine points (three goals, six assists) and a plus-3 rating in 56 games this season.

Rutta has 70 points (15 goals, 55 assists) in 294 career games with Chicago (2017-19), Tampa Bay (2019-22) and Pittsburgh.
