Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry has foot in boot, out 'week to week'

Fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins hoping to hear good news regarding the unspecified lower-body injury that currently has first-choice goaltender Tristan Jarry sidelined may want to just move on now.

As Chris Adamski explained for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Jarry was spotted on Wednesday with his right foot "in what appeared to be a boot-like apparatus," and the 26-year-old needed "a wheeled scooter-like device" to travel around Pittsburgh's PPG Paints Arena.

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan remarked that Jarry is out "week to week," which puts his status for at least the start of the upcoming postseason tournament in question. The playoffs are set to begin May 2.

"Tristan is going through a rehab process right now," Sullivan told reporters following Wednesday's practice ahead of Thursday's matchup against the Boston Bruins. "His status is week to week. We are not sure what that picture (outlook for the playoffs) will look like."

Jarry suffered his injury during last Thursday's 6-3 home win over the New York Islanders, presumably when he had his right leg slid into by Islanders forward Anders Lee in the third period of the victory. Multiple individuals have since reported Jarry has a broken bone in his foot:

Casey DeSmith started what became Saturday's 2-1 loss in Boston and will be backed up by Louis Domingue, who was recalled from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League last week, until further notice.

Jarry went 34-18-6 with a 2.42 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage in 58 games and 56 starts this season before his setback. DeSmith, meanwhile, is now 8-5-5 with a 2.89 goals-against average and .907 save percentage.
