PITTSBURGH - There is one game remaining in the Pittsburgh Penguins 2022-23 season, but they are still making adjustments to their roster.

The Penguins have placed defenseman Mark Friedman on waivers, likely ahead of Marcus Pettersson’s return to the lineup.

Friedman has played a good chunk of the season at the NHL level with 23 games played, three behind his career high of 26.

In those 23 games played, Friedman has scored a goal and two assists for three points and averaged a career high 14:27 minutes of ice time per game.

Friedman has also played in 24 game at the AHL level in the 2022-23 season and recorded a goal and five assists.

This move likely signals the return of Pettersson to the lineup after he has missed time on long-term injured reserve.

Pettersson has been out of the lineup since March 18 with a lower-body injury.

Prior to his injury, Pettersson has been having an outstanding season, spending time on the first defensive unit on multiple occasions.

In 67 games played, Pettersson has recorded a goal and 23 assists for 24 points.
