Alex Nylander’s bid to start the regular season with the Pittsburgh Penguins appears to have failed.
He is one of three forwards — Andreas Johnsson and Joonas Koppanen are the others — who have been placed on waivers, presumably with the intention of assigning them to the Penguins’ American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre if they are not claimed by another team by Friday afternoon.
Nylander had one point, a goal, in three preseason games this fall. Johnsson and Koppanen also appeared in three games each, but neither recorded a point.
