It turns out that the road to Wilkes-Barre runs in both directions for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Three players who were assigned there before the team traveled to Nova Scotia last week — defenseman Ty Smith and forwards Rem Pitlick and Avery Hayes — were recalled today.

Their return leaves the Penguins with 36 healthy players — 22 forwards, 10 defensemen and four goaltenders — in camp. Five others are on the injured list.

It was not immediately clear if the recalled players will participate in today’s practice, which is scheduled for noon at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.
