PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins suffered a possible season-defining loss to the Calgary Flames, likely opening the floodgates for a fire sale before the trade deadline. While numerous Penguins are possibly on the market, one key veteran forward is likely staying put along with the core.

According to Elliotte Friedman, on Saturday Headlines, teams approached the Penguins about Bryan Rust, but there are no plans to move him. Rust’s contract carries a full no-move clause, and Friedman says the Penguins will not ask him to waive the condition.

“Bryan Rust, who’s injured right now, he has a no-move clause,” Friedman said. “I’m under the impression that the Penguins went to Rust recently and said, ‘We aren’t even going to ask you to move it.’”

Friedman has previously stated that the Penguins are unlikely to ask players about waiving trade clauses in their contracts. In a pre-deadline press conference, penguins’ general manager Kyle Dubas said that he has not asked anyone to waive their conditions.

“Rust is going to stay with Pittsburgh,” Friedman said. “He’s out right now, but he’s highly respected, and teams asked.”

Rust has been out of the Penguins lineup for three games with an upper-body injury and is considered week-to-week. He did not join the Penguins on their current road trip.

In 42 games played this season, Rust has scored a clean 18 goals and 18 assists for 36 total points. His contract lasts for another four seasons and carries a full no-move clause for just one more year.
