Despite a day full of rumors, trades, and moves across the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins still had a road trip to kick off.

The Penguins found their names appear around a few rumors, but the only definite move was the placement of Brock McGinn and Mark Friedman on waivers.

McGinn was placed on waivers but was still in the lineup against the Nashville Predators alongside Jeff Carter and Danton Heinen.

Every game is desperate from here on out for the Penguins, but the Predators should be an easier opponent as injuries pile up and they were just hours removed from trading away a veteran defender.

The Penguins and Predators put together a scoreless first period, but it was Tristan Jarry who carried a bulk of the work.

Jarry stopped all 16 shots he faced in the first period, while the Penguins struggled to pull together sustained offense.

The Penguins only accumulated nine shots through the opening frame.

While much stronger offensively through the second period, the offensive struggle continued with no goals through 40 minutes.

Former Penguins forward Mark Jankowski broke the scoreless battle just over seven minutes into the third period off of a terrible turnover from Kris Letang.

Following gaining some momentum from a massively important penalty kill, the McGinn found his first point since December 22 when he found a breaking Sidney Crosby for a breakaway.

Crosby found the five hole of Juuse Saros and had just enough on the shot to squeeze through for the tying goal.

Jason Zucker added to his hot season with a late tally to take the lead; a clean steal from Zucker and a quick release caught Saros off-guard and it was another sneaky goal.

The Predators pulled Saros hoping to bang home a goal with an extra man, but a lunging Bryan Rust put the nail in the coffin for a 3-1 victory.

It was a haul to get to the scoring, but Jarry stood tall all night and helped extend the Penguins winning streak to three games.
