Defenseman Will Butcher has cleared waivers and will likely now be re-assigned by the Pittsburgh Penguins to the AHL.
Butcher has been slowly returning from an injury that kept him out of the entirety of Penguins training camp and preseason.
After some skates personal skates, Butcher has seemingly returned to health and is ready for game action.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins recently released defenseman Mark Pysyk from an AHL professional tryout contract, opening up the space for Butcher.
The Penguins signed Butcher this past summer and started the 2023-24 season on their season-opening injured reserve.
With Butcher making it to the AHL roster, the WBS Penguins have seen quite a few additions over the last few days.
The Butcher assignment is just the most recent following the Penguins re-assigned Alex Nylander and WBS acquiring Peter Abbandonato and Owen Headrick.
Butcher has a fair bit of NHL experience with 275 games played and 114 career points; he was even on the 2017-18 NHL all-rookie team.
