Pierre-Luc Dubois is a pending RFA this summer and is eligible to become a UFA in two more seasons. According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, he reports on Wednesday that Dubois informed the Winnipeg Jets of his plans to reach unrestricted free agency in 2024.

“Pierre-Luc Dubois has informed the Winnipeg Jets that his current plan is to test unrestricted free agency when eligible in the summer of 2024,” Friedman said. “Now the Jets have control of the process until then, and what we’re also hearing though is that they wish to keep him and have him as a Jet for a long time to come.”

Pierre-Luc Dubois wants to hit UFA status

Dubois was traded along with a draft pick from the Columbus Blue Jackets to Winnipeg in exchange for Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic this past season. He’s wrapping up a two-year deal signed with the Jackets in 2019-20 that came with a $5M AAV.

“There’s been a lot of rumors about some of the changes they may or may not make,” Elliotte Friedman said back in April. “[Dubois] is up for a new contract and has two years before unrestricted free agency. So he’s in a situation where he has some real power over his future. And if the Jets don’t feel like they can sign him long term this is going to be a situation to watch.”

The Jets are still in the process of looking for a new head coach, but need to get moving on Pierre-Luc Dubois’ next contract.

If the Jets don’t think they can reach a deal, it’s possible he could be moved for picks and prospects. There is also the threat of an offer sheet. Dubois has until July 17th to file for salary arbitration. From July 13th, when free agency opens and until that date he can sign an offer-sheet.

One thing is clear, there will be no shortage of suitors should the Jets make him available. In 81 games this season, he recorded 28 goals and 60 points.

So what will the Jets do? That answer will becoming in the next few weeks.
