The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that they’ve placed forward Radim Zohorna on waivers for purposes of sending him to the minors. Zohorna has played 31 games for the Penguins this year as a bottom-six forward, scoring four goals and seven points. He has 16 penalty minutes and a +0 rating while averaging 10:04 minutes of ice time per game.

This is the second time Zohorna has been on waivers this season. On October 9th, 2023 he went through waivers and played two games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and didn’t end up with any points. Zohorna signed a one-year, one-way contract with the Penguins in the offseason for $775,000. The Penguins signing Zohorna brought his NHL career full circle as the Penguins were the team that brought him over to North America in the first place four years ago.

Zohorna made his NHL debut in 2020-21 with the Penguins and split his playing time between the NHL and AHL. He was claimed off waivers by the Calgary Flames before the 2022-23 season and ended up playing 40 games for the Calgary Wranglers in the AHL, scoring 29 points. At the 2023 trade deadline, the Flames dealt Zohorna to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Dryden Hunt. He finished the season in the Maple Leafs’ organisation, playing two games for them and 11 for the Toronto Marlies.

Zohorna has played 66 games so far in his NHL career and scored nine goals and 18 points in that span. If he clears waivers, he’ll be sent to play for the Penguins’ AHL affiliate for an indefinite amount of time.
