Who is Parker Wotherspoon?
Parker Wotherspoon was born on August 24, 1997, in Surrey, British Columbia. His older brother Tyler was a second-round draft pick of the Calgary Flames in 2011 and plays for the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League. Parker played with the Cloverdale Colts U15 team in the PCBHL during the 2011-12 season, and notched 16 goals and 38 assists in 53 games. The next season, the defenseman split time with the Valley West Hawks U18 team in the BCEHL and the Western Hockey League’s Tri-City Americans, where he would play four seasons. Wotherspoon would win a Silver Medal with the Team Canada U17 team at the World Hockey Championships in 2014 and a Bronze Medal with the U18 team at the World Junior Championships in 2015. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound blue liner was a second-team WHL all-star during the 2016-17 season.

Wotherspoon was a fourth-round selection by the New York Islanders in the 2015 NHL Draft. Wotherspoon was a dark horse to make the NHL as Dobber Prospects described him as having “some fine tools on offense and defense. He’s a calm player but it will take a while before he is ready for the NHL.” This scout seemed to be prophetic as the left-shot defenseman played 266 American Hockey League games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers/Islanders team until finally breaking into the NHL.
Parker Wotherspoon’s NHL Debut to Today
On December 23, 2002, Wotherspoon made his NHL debut with the Islanders in a game against the Florida Panthers in which he took 20 shifts for 14:47 of ice time with one blocked shot, one hit, and two shots on goal. Wotherspoon played 12 NHL games during the 2022-23 season with one assist. During the summer after that season, the Boston Bruins signed Wotherspoon to a one-year contract, and the defenseman played 19 games with the Providence Bruins of the AHL and 41 NHL games with Boston, where he compiled eight assists. Wotherspoon was signed to another one-year $800,000 contract by the Bruins for the 2024-25 season and is still seeking his first NHL goal.
