Players share thoughts about an NHL version of Netflix’s ‘Quarterback’

Netflix docuseries “Quarterback” has been one of the more overwhelmingly popular shows since its premier last month.

Which prompted Bleacher Report to ask a few players if the streaming platform did an NHL spinoff, which position would they like to see camera a crew follow?

While the answers covered all three of the sport’s positions (forward, defenseman, goalie), there did appear to be a general consensus.

“I actually think goalies,” Boston Bruins defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk said. “I’m sure people would be blown away at the nuances of their, we’ll call them routines and not superstitions.”

“Probably low-hanging fruit, but the answer to that question would be the goaltenders, right?” New York Rangers forward Chris Krieder added. “I think they have the biggest impact on the game.”

Rangers goaltender Jonathan Quick also voted for his position; however, the three-time All-Star said if he was asked to participate in the show he would not do so.

Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras thought a little outside of the box, advocating for the show to follow one player for each position.

Season 1 of “Quarterback,” which follows around three starting NFL QBs — Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, Minnesota’s Kirk Cousins and Atlanta’s Marcus Mariota (who’s now with the Philadelphia Eagles) — is currently the No. 10-rated show on Netflix.

It was given a score of 86% by Rotten Tomatoes and is nearing five million views since its premier, including 1.7 million views during the week of July 24-July 30, according to BGR. The show’s executive producer Peyton Manning confirmed the show has been renewed for a second season.
