New York Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant was honored today in his hometown of Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
The rink at Credit Union Place opened in 2007 and will now be named the Gerard “Turk” Gallant Arena. With two ice surfaces, kids in the community will learn how to play hockey and chase after their dreams as Gallant did in Summerside.

“Turk’s Illustrious playing and coaching career is remarkable and one that spans over roughly 34 years of involvement in the National Hockey League and counting,” Mayor Basil Stewart said in a press release. “Throughout this time he’s been an ambassador for our City and a role model for many. Having his name attached to the Summerside’s flagship sport and recreation facility is an honour for our City.”
Gallant, 58, led the Rangers to a 52-24-6 mark for 110 points in his first season with the team. Those numbers were good for third highest points (110) and tied for second most wins (52) in franchise history.
The Blueshirts coach was also up for the Jack Adams Award as ‘Coach of the Year’ but lost out to Darryl Sutter of the Calgary Flames.
Is James Dolan going to sell the Knicks and Rangers?
Jonathan Boyar of Boyar Value Group was recently on CNBC’s Closing Bell Overtime talking Madison Square Garden Sports stock (NYSE: MSGS).
While providing his analysis he noted that upon the completion of the MSG Sphere in Vegas he believe owner James Dolan may sell the teams.
“We think it’s likely that after that is done, James Dolan, who controls the company, will sell the teams,” Boyar said. “What’s interesting is that private equity has gotten involved in a big way. It wouldn’t surprise us to put a marker on one or both of the teams if private equity takes a stake.”
This isn’t the first time that speculation regarding James Dolan looking to sell the teams has come up.
Back in 2018, it was rumored that Dolan was investigating selling the Rangers. As soon as that hit the wire, a well placed source refuted the report.
I reached out to the same person to see if anything had changed. At this time, it appears the sentiments echoed four years ago remain the same today.
Update: A representative at MSG reached out after seeing this story. ”We have no plans to sell either of the teams,” they stated.
Note: A schedule change for the Rangers home game versus the Arizona Coyotes on November 13 has moved the start time from 6 PM to 7 PM ET.
