Red-hot Bruins add another record in historic season

The Boston Bruins have set another record with one game left in their historic 2022-23 NHL regular season.

On Tuesday night, the Bruins defeated the Washington Capitals, 5-2, for their 64th win, adding to their NHL record for wins in a season. The win also gave them 133 points, breaking the record of the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens.

On Tuesday, Boston (64-12-5) -- which has a league-best +127 goal-differential -- was led by Brad Marchand, who had a goal and two assists.

It wasn't a night of complete celebration, however, as Vezina Trophy favorite and Bruins starting goaltender Linus Ullmark left with an injury after taking a weird slide into the post, forcing backup Jeremy Swayman into action.

Afterward, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery told the media the injury wasn't serious.

"Just precautionary," Montgomery said, per The Athletic's Fluto Shinzawa. "He’s going to be fine."

Despite not being able to finish the game, Ullmark made some personal history. The netminder became the second goalie in Bruins history to win 40 games, joining Pete Peeters, who accomplished the feat in the 1982-83 season per NHL PR

Because there's nothing else to play for in the final regular-season game, Ullmark will probably finish with a 40-6-1 record.

Boston will close its historic regular season Thursday at Montreal (31-43-6) before the playoffs begin next week.
