The Detroit Red Wings have assigned Joe Veleno to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.

Veleno, 22, has appeared in 31 National Hockey League games with the Red Wings this season, tallying four goals and six points. Also in 2021–22, Veleno has three goals in seven games with the Griffins.

With the Red Wings inactive until Feb. 9 due to the All-Star break, it’s likely this move was made solely to get Veleno some additional playing time in the AHL. The Griffins are scheduled to play against the Ontario Reign on Feb. 4 and 5.
