Robby Fabbri’s unlucky injury record may have been extended on Wednesday. The Red Wings forward left his team’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks during the first period after Tyler Johnson inadvertently hit Fabbri on the knee.

The 27-year-old went directly up the tunnel after the collision. Fabbri was not on the bench to begin the second period; the team announced that he would not return.

Fabbri has already suffered three ACL injuries in his career, most recently around a year ago. The forward only began his season in January after months of rehab.

Now in his fourth season in Detroit, Fabbri has not played more than 61 games since his rookie season. Despite his unfortunate injury luck, Fabbri remains a productive player, with 49 goals and 96 points in his 174 games for the Red Wings.

The Red Wings had expected to contend for postseason hockey after making offseason additions like David Perron, Olli Maata and Andrew Copp.

At the trade deadline, though, the Red Wings dealt Tyler Bertuzzi to the Boston Bruins and saw a deal for Flyers winger James van Riemsdyk fall through.

In the meantime, they have fallen into a six-game losing streak that sees them far out of the Eastern Conference’s last wild-card berth.

The Red Wings and the Blackhawks are tied 3-3 through three periods.
