Andrew Copp scored the go-ahead goal at 18:20 of the third period and the visiting Detroit Red Wings came back to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 on Sunday night.

After a Toronto turnover, Copp shot from the left faceoff circle for his eighth goal of the season.

Lucas Raymond added his 12th of the season into an empty net season at 19:41.

The start of the game was delayed by about 50 minutes because weather caused travel problems for the Red Wings.

Pontus Holmberg and Mitchell Marner scored for the Maple Leafs. Marner reached 600 career points in 548 games with the goal, the fastest to reach the plateau in franchise history.

Ilya Samsonov made his first start for the Maple Leafs since Dec. 29 and stopped 20 shots.

Dylan Larkin and Daniel Sprong also scored for the Red Wings.

Former Maple Leafs player James Reimer made 28 saves.

Samsonov, whose struggles resulted in a demotion to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, made some good saves early in the first period. Detroit had a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period. Toronto had three power plays in the first and Detroit had one.

Holmberg scored his second goal of the season 32 seconds into the second period when he tipped in Morgan Rielly's shot from the left point.

Larkin scored his 17th at 15:39 of the second. Forechecking set up Larkin for his shot from a sharp angle from the left of the net.

Detroit almost scored again soon after, but the puck was cleared off the goal line.

Toronto regained the lead on Marner's 18th goal of the season at 18:18 of the second on a tap-in of Tyler Bertuzzi's pass.

Toronto had a 21-17 advantage in shots on goal after two periods.

Sprong burst in alone to score his 11th goal of the season at 2:46 of the third period after Rielly's stick broke.

Detroit's Patrick Kane (lower-body injury) left the game during the first period and did not return.

Toronto defenseman Mark Giordano (rest) did not play.
