Amid all the craziness of the July 1 NHL Free Agent Day, the Detroit Red Wings signed a pair of reliable depth pieces for their lineup.

The Red Wings added goaltender Cam Talbot, signing the veteran netminder to a two-year, $5 million deal with an AAV worth $2.5 million.

The team also signed defenseman William Lagesson to a one-year, $750,000 contract.

Last season with the Kings, the 36-year-old Talbot had a 27-20-6 record in 54 appearances with the Kings, posting a .913 SV% and 2.48 GAA. He also appeared in three playoff games for the Kings, going 1-2-0 against the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

In 11 NHL seasons, the undrafted goalie has a 245-176-42 record in 486 career games, posting a .913 SV% and 2.63 GAA with the Kings, Ottawa Senators, Minnesota Wild, Calgary Flames, Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Lagesson had four assists and 32 penalty minutes in 40 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks. In four NHL seasons, Lagesson has 11 assists and 54 penalty minutes in 100 career regular-season games with the Ducks, Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers.

Taken in the fourth round by the Oilers in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Lagesson has spent the majority of his professional career in the AHL, scoring 21 goals and 51 assists for 72 points and 118 penalty minutes in 173 career regular-season games with the Bakersfield Condors, Chicago Wolves and Toronto Marlies.

The Red Wings had a 41-32-9 record with 91 points in 2023-24, fifth in the Atlantic Division. They just missed out on qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as the Washington Capitals held the same number of points, but advanced based on the tiebreaker.
