The Detroit Red Wings signed goaltender Carter Gylander to a two-year, entry-level deal worth $855,000 per season through 2025-26. The six-foot-four netminder will have a base salary of $775,000 with an $80,000 signing bonus.

The 22-year-old was also signed by the Grand Rapids Griffins to an amateur tryout for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

Gylander was drafted in the seventh round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by the Red Wings. He enrolled at Colgate University. During his four seasons, Gylander had 106 appearances with Colgate, he had a 46-46-13 record with five shutouts, a career 2.69 GAA and a .907 SV%.

He was named the 2023 ECAC Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player when he helped Colgate win its first conference title since 1990.

Before going to Colgate, he spent three seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) with Sherwood Park, where he had a 51-9-0 mark with a .919 SV% and a 2.23 GAA in 64 appearances. He was named the AJHL’s top goaltender in 2019-20 when he posted a 34-5-0 record with a .924 SV% and a 2.07 GAA.

The Red Wings will host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. Going into the game, Detroit is 34-28-6 with 74 points, fifth in the Atlantic Division. The club is 2-8-0 in their last 10 games, and are one point behind the Washington Capitals for the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
