With a pair of netminders out for the foreseeable future , the Detroit Red Wings made a move on Tuesday.

The team announced they signed veteran goaltender Michael Hutchinson to a one-year, two-way contract.

The Red Wings suffered two setbacks in net with Alex Lyon leaving last Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers with an oblique injury and Ville Husso leaving Monday’s game vs. the Anaheim Ducks with a lower-body injury.

The team announced that Lyon will be week-to-week, while Husso will be out “for a while.”

Hutchinson has spent the first third of the 2023-24 season with the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, posting a 5-7-1 record with an .895 save percentage and one shutout in 13 games.

The six-foot-three netminder appeared in two preseason games with the Red Wings while signed to a professional tryout (PTO).

The 33-year-old Hutchinson spent last season with the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights and the Columbus Blue Jackets, making seven appearances with the Silver Knights before playing 16 games with the Blue Jackets.

Drafted in the third round by the Boston Bruins in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Hutchinson has compiled a 57-61-18 record with a .902 save percentage and six shutouts in 153 career NHL games with the Winnipeg Jets, Florida Panthers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche and Blue Jackets since 2013-14.

Through 222 career AHL games, Hutchinson has recorded a 111-78-21 record and 16 shutouts. He participated in the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic.
