Report: At least eight Canucks players test positive for COVID-19
The Vancouver Canucks are not eligible to return to the ice until April 6 after Travis Hamonic, Adam Gaudette and an unnamed coach tested positive for COVID-19. However, it appears the club's coronavirus issues might be more widespread.
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, multiple players and staff members tested positive for COVID-19 in the latest round of testing. At least eight players have reportedly returned a positive test.
Hamonic's positive diagnosis is particularly concerning. The 30-year-old defenseman opted out of playing for the Calgary Flames in last summer's playoffs because he wanted to protect his daughter, who suffered a serious respiratory illness in 2019.
Earlier this season, Canucks defenseman Jordie Benn tested positive for COVID-19 and did not experience any symptoms of the virus.
Vancouver is currently sixth in the North Division and out of a playoff spot with a 16-18-3 record. The Canucks join a list of a few teams who have had to pause this season due to COVID-19 issues, including the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins.
