The Calgary Flames have reportedly joined in on the waiver wire action. Via Chris Johnston (of various places), among others, the Flames have reportedly placed goaltender Oscar Dansk, defenceman Colton Poolman, and forwards Clark Bishop and Ben Jones on waivers.

The four players would be eligible to be assigned to the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers once they clear waivers on Tuesday.

Dansk, 29, seemed slated to be the Flames’ fourth-string goaltender, likely working backup behind Dustin Wolf with the Wranglers. He played one period of pre-season hockey.

Poolman, 27, was likely destined to be helpful veteran depth for the Wranglers. He was paired with Jeremie Poirier last season, to a good deal of success for both of them, and seems destined for a similar role in 2023-24. He played one pre-season game.

Bishop, 27, was another savvy veteran that re-upped with the Flames this off-season, again likely as AHL depth. He formed a really effective checking line last winter with Kevin Rooney and Brett Sutter. He played two pre-season games.

Jones, 24, might be the most surprising of the four players on waivers. He was really effective last season for the Wranglers and showed pretty well in two pre-season appearances. But he’s probably the victim of a log-jam of forwards vying for depth roles with the big club.

Barring any other roster moves, these potential assignments would reduce the Flames’ training camp roster to 38 players (3 goaltenders, 14 forwards and 21 forwards).
