Calvin Pickard has been the saving grace for the Edmonton Oilers in net, as he’s won six games straight since taking over for Stuart Skinner. The Oilers currently hold a 2-1 series lead against the Vegas Golden Knights, but news has come out that isn’t encouraging…

Per Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch, Pickard will be missing Game 4 as he continues to deal with an undisclosed injury. This is devastating news as Skinner has greatly struggled in the postseason so far.

Pickard was injured during Game 2 but still managed to come out with the win for the Oilers. With that being said, he wasn’t 100% and was unable to start Game 3. The Oilers would heartbreakingly lose yesterday’s match-up, but the hope was that Pickard would be able to return as soon as possible.

Tough news for the Oilers and their playoff momentum

The Golden Knights squeaked out the type of win that can change the momentum of a series. Pickard was a major factor in the Oilers taking the first two games, and his absence is developing into a weak spot for Edmonton.

There’s no question that Skinner hasn’t been on his game this postseason, as goaltending can truly make or break a series. You also can’t rule out the Golden Knights, as their depth and talent can sneak up on you at any time.

Game 4 is a must-win situation for the Oilers if they want to take back their momentum. They can’t let this setback affect their focus on the bigger picture, as Vegas will be bringing their A-game tomorrow.
