This morning, the agent whisperer himself Rick Dhaliwal unloaded a boatload of Vancouver Canucks-related updates on Twitter.
We already covered Dhaliwal’s update on Tanner Pearson, where Dhaliwal shared that Pearson has had 6-7 surgeries and is hopefully done with surgeries. Pearson’s long term future is still very much so up in the air, and it’s far from a guarantee that he’ll play next season.
In addition to his report on Pearson, Dhaliwal also offered updates on some of the Canucks’ pending free agents — namely Kyle Burroughs, Ethan Bear, and Collin Delia.
First, the good news. The Canucks have resumed contract talks with Ethan Bear’s camp after what Dhaliwal said was “a long period with no talks.” Bear was acquired by the Canucks from the Carolina Hurricanes in late October and has found a home on the Vancouver blue line after a string of healthy scratches in Carolina. He’s an RFA at the end of this season, and has spent most of his Canucks career lined up alongside Quinn Hughes.
Dhaliwal also reported that talks with defenceman Noah Juulsen continue as well. Juulsen signed with the Canucks last offseason after coming over in the Olli Juolevi trade with the Florida Panthers at the start of the 2021-22 season. Juulsen is set to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights this offseason.
On Kyle Burroughs, Dhaliwal reported that there have been no talks with the Vancouver-born defenceman, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The Canucks signed Burroughs to a two-year two-way contract in July of 2021. Burroughs grew up a Canucks fan and has always been open and honest about how much playing for the organization means to him.
Burroughs has proved to be an exceptional option as the Canucks’ seventh defenceman and is always willing to play the body and drop the gloves to defend his teammates when necessary.
As for Collin Delia, the Canucks haven’t had any contract talks with the 26-year-old netminder, according to Dhaliwal. Delia signed with the Canucks this past offseason and has an .884 save percentage through 19 games at the NHL level this season.
