The Vancouver Canucks have added another member to their front office.

According to Elliotte Friedman, Hall of Famer Cammi Granato will be joining the Canucks as an assistant general manager.

The Canucks fired general manager Jim Benning and head coach Travis Green back on December 5, and since then, their front office has undergone a full transformation.

Jim Rutherford took over as the Canucks’ president of hockey operations, and Patrik Allvin, whom Rutherford knew from his days with the Pittsburgh Penguins, was hired to be general manager. Émilie Castonguay, who was the first NHLPA-certified female player agent in Canada, was also named an assistant general manager with a focus on negotiating contracts.

It isn’t clear yet what Granato’s focus will be in her AGM role, but she was previously working as a scout for the Seattle Kraken.

Granato brings a wealth of experience to the Canucks as one of the greatest female players of all time. She played NCAA hockey for Providence College and captained the United States women’s hockey team to a gold medal at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan.

Castonguay and Granato are the first women to hold assistant general manager positions in the NHL.
