The New Jersey Devils will reportedly use a buyout on forward Janne Kuokkanen, according to Puck Pedia. He will become an unrestricted free agent.

Kuokkanen signed a two-year, $3.65 million contract last August. Being under the age of 25, the buyout ratio for Kuokkanen is 1:3, so he’ll cost the Devils $200k in 2022-23 and $325k in 2023-24.

Kuokkanen was originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft. In February of 2020, he was part of a trade that sent defenseman Sami Vatanen from New Jersey to Carolina.

In his first full season in the NHL in 2021, Kuokkanen scored eight goals and 25 points over 50 games. In 2021-22, his production declined to just 17 points over the course of 57 games.

Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET will be the end of the buyout window.
