Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko is injured and could miss the rest of the 2021–22 regular season, according to Sportsnet hockey insider Elliotte Friedman.

Demko, 26, has been the Canucks’ workhorse in goal all season long, posting a 33–22–7 record and a .915 save percentage in 64 games with the team.

Friedman appeared on Tuesday’s edition of Donnie & Dhali – The Team on CHEK TV to discuss the latest surrounding the Canucks — including Demko’s status — with hosts Don Taylor and Rick Dhaliwal.

“We’ll see if they clarify it, but I have heard that there’s a good chance [Demko] is not gonna play the rest of this year,” Friedman said, confirming an earlier report by Dhaliwal. “It’s too bad, he’s had a great season.”

Demko last suited up in the Canucks’ 6–3 loss to the Calgary Flames on April 23, stopping 25 of the 30 shots he faced in the game.

With Demko’s season potentially over, the Canucks recalled goaltender Arturs Silovs from the American Hockey League on Tuesday. Silovs, 21, has a 3–6–0 record and an .888 save percentage in 10 AHL games with the Abbotsford Canucks this year.

The Canucks will try to keep their scant playoff hopes alive on Tuesday evening when they host the Seattle Kraken at Rogers Arena. With Demko and Jaroslav Halak sidelined, expect Spencer Martin (1–0–2, .958 SV%) to start for Vancouver against the Kraken.
