Report: Terminated Capitals forward Brendan Leipsic to sign with KHL's CSKA

It looks like former Washington Capitals forward Brendan Leipsic has found himself a new home in the KHL. The 26-year-old is reportedly close to signing a deal with CSKA Hockey Club in Moscow, Sports Express reported on Friday.

Leipsic's contract was terminated by the Capitals in May after his private Instagram messages leaked on social media and he was exposed for making hateful, misogynistic remarks in a group chat with his friends, including his brother Jeremy and Florida Panthers prospect Jack Rodewald earlier in the week.

Messages revealed Leipsic and company berated women about their weight and appearance while also insulting his teammates.

It's not surprising that Leipsic was able to find a job in the KHL, either — the overseas league has made some rather questionable signings in the past. Former Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov spent two months in jail for domestic violence in 2014 and later signed with the KHL's St. Petersburg SKA before playing with Omsk Avangard for the 2019-20 campaign.

Leipsic had 11 points (three goals, eight assists) through 61 games this season with the Capitals. The Canadian also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vegas Golden Knights and Vancouver Canucks in a rather short NHL career. He was originally selected by the Nashville Predators in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft.
