Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller has generated discussion on the trade market over the “last day or so” and could be held out of the lineup for Monday’s game against the Dallas Stars, The Athletic hockey insider Shayna Goldman reported Sunday night.

Miller, 29, has 20 goals and 54 points in 59 games with the Canucks this season, the final year of his existing $5.25 million AAV deal. He’ll be under contract at an $8 million AAV through the end of the 2029–30 season, at which point he’ll be 37 years old.

The Canucks only signed Miller to his forthcoming eight-year contract extension last September. However, as Daily Faceoff‘s Frank Seravalli indicated last week, the Canucks are “considering a lot of different options” as they look to create cap flexibility going forward.

Things are already heating up considerably on the trade market as the Mar. 3 trade deadline looms large. The New Jersey Devils acquired Timo Meier from the San Jose Sharks on Sunday — Goldman was first to report numerous details about that trade — shortly before the Nashville Predators sent Tanner Jeannot to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Nino Niederreiter, Evgenii Dadonov, Denis Gurianov, Ivan Barbashev, Vitali Kravtsov, Dmitry Orlov, Garnet Hathaway, Ryan O’Reilly, Noel Acciari, Vladimir Tarasenko, and (of course) Bo Horvat are among the players already off the board with less than a week remaining until the deadline.

But there are still plenty of players out there. The Canucks are widely expected to continue selling over the next few days, with Luke Schenn and Brock Boeser the main players on Vancouver’s trade block. It remains to be seen whether Miller’s hefty contract extension will deter teams from offering premier assets for his services.

The Canucks will return to action at American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX on Monday evening to take on the Dallas Stars at 5:30 p.m. PT. We’ll have all the latest from that game — including whether or not Miller actually plays — here at CanucksArmy.
